The Lendtable TeamMay 23, 2023

Hi RJ, we're so excited to have you here! Why don't you introduce yourself a little?

I'm a product designer with a focus on creating systems and design documentation for teams. Originally I went to school for Design at UC Davis, and I started out in video game interface. Eventually I wanted to have a bigger positive impact on the world and that has brought me to Lendtable.

Where are you from?

I'm from San Jose, just a little south of San Francisco.

Before coming to Lendtable, what were you doing?

I spent some time helping create the product and brand for Doppler (a developer tool everyone should be using, and one we do use here at Lendtable).

What made you choose to come to Lendtable?

I love the mission and can see very clearly what an impact it can make because, frankly, it's a product that I wish I had when I was at a company that offered 401k matching (which I didn't utilize).

Why is Lendtable's mission important to you?

My mom's side of the family always seemed to struggle financially, and most of them don't even see a possibility of retirement in their future. That feels so unjust since they truly work harder than anyone else I know. They simply lack the knowledge that someone like my step-dad has about how to handle money and invest.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I love art and I study everything from fashion illustration to comics and animation. I am an absolute scifi nerd, and love video games, books, and tv that explores the possibilities of future technologies.

Where do you look for financial tips and advice?

My step-dad has always been my go-to guy for financial advice. Hoping to branch out more in the coming months as I dig into the finance world for myself.

What do you consider your greatest financial accomplishment?

My biggest investment so far has been in my education, and I'm very proud of that decision. I've paid off over $60,000 worth of debt from that time, and can boast a nice healthy credit score for it. That accomplishment has made me feel confident in being able to dig myself out of any financial hole I might find myself in, and it also led to me having frugal and realistic money habits that are a huge asset in my life today.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

Honestly, be kinder to your family. I wish I had known how much they were struggling and how difficult it can be to live with a seriously unstable financial situation. I can see now that they were all doing their best and that financial stress can affect every aspect of one's life. I don't wish that on anyone.
